The round table is aimed at elaborating relevant recommendations to the parties in the Arab-Israeli conflict in order to set up the conditions for a re-launch of the full-scale peacemaking process in the Middle East including the convocation of a related Moscow conference.
Prominent political and public figures of the past and the present, as well as reputable experts in Middle-East peace settlements representing more than twenty countries (see the list of invitees attached hereto) will hold an intensive brainstorming session discussing the most critical issues hindering the resolution of this deep-rooted conflict which damages the regional environment and threatens international peace and security. The public diplomacy format gives the opportunity to freely discuss any aspect of this conflict and involve those who otherwise, and due to certain reasons, cannot sit down at a negotiations table.
In summarizing the results of the discussions, we plan to vote for an appeal to the conflicting parties, to lead regional states and world powers to reject former stereotypes, to break the history of mistrust and to speedily enter into the negotiation process on a final peace settlement so as to transform the Middle East into an area of peace and cooperation.
In the course of the informal two-day discussion, the following issues are proposed for discussion.
Main vectors of discussion: I. Actual Middle East process 1. Palestine-Israeli relations and Hamas. Prospects of Palestinian unity restoration. 2. The political situation in Israel. Israeli society and the prospects of peace process renewal. 3. Are there any chances for complete realization of the «Road map» plan? 4. The possible parameters of settlement of Palestinian territories status? Prospects for compromise in relation to the problem of settlers, refugees and Jerusalem.
II. The role of the world community in Middle East Settlement (MES) 1. Rising of effectiveness of the Middle East mediator «quartet» role? 2. Arab Peace Initiative possibilities to become a common platform for Israeli and Arab work? 3. Prospects of creation of confidence criteria in Israeli-Palestinian relations aiming on renewal of peace dialogue. 4. Terms of the Moscow conference on the Middle East, its format and substantive filling.
III. Iran and the Middle East 1. Interests of Teheran in region of Middle East? 2. The role of Iran in international activities aiming on Middle East peace settlement 3. Israel Shamir,Political philosopher
There is an urgent need for a distinctly Christian Old Testament in Hebrew; the Hebrew source of the Septuagint should be reconstructed, says Israel Shamir.
They say that at a press-conference before departing from Israel, President George W. Bush was asked: “What impressed you most of all in Israel?” The Texan replied: “The Bible in my room. It was in your tongue! Despite the wars and terrorism, you did not begrudge the effort and translated the Holy Bible into Hebrew in such a short time! That impressed me the most”.
